What Is an OBD2 Scanner and How Does It Work?
OBD2 (On-Board Diagnostics, version 2) is a standard system in virtually every car since ~1996. It lets you read engine status, trouble codes (DTCs) and live readings through a small port under the dashboard.
Where is the OBD2 port?
Usually under the steering wheel on the driver side — a 16-pin trapezoid connector. On some models it sits behind a small cover or near the fuse box.
What does it read?
Stored and pending trouble codes, plus live values like engine RPM, coolant temperature, engine load and oxygen-sensor readings, along with emissions-readiness status.
How Mowtar AI helps
The Mowtar AI app connects to your OBD2 dongle (Bluetooth or Wi-Fi), reads the data, and analyses it with AI — explaining codes and predicting failures before they get worse.
FAQ
Is OBD2 safe for my car?
Yes — reading (standard PIDs) is completely safe and changes nothing. Only clear/write commands change state, and the app warns you first.
Does it work with every car?
Most petrol cars after 1996 (and diesel ~2004-2008 by region). Just check the port exists.
